We have been waiting so long…
There have been a couple of near misses and even a few false starts. But is that all about to change? Are we about to get an official announcement and a Movie or a series to look forward to?
How soon could the announcement happen?
At SciTrek we recently reported that MGM had reached out to us. They wanted to open a dialogue with us following 2 years of us leaking exclusive after exclusive. They hope to have a positive dialogue with us and hopefully avoid much of the negativity projects like Rings of Power managed to generate. They were able to confirm they plan is to go ahead with a Movie, either to the Cinema or straight to streaming, that decision has not been made yet but one thing they have decided? It will be followed quickly by a series.

Now of course they wont confirm much else just yet however it does seem that the fact they are starting to reach out to Youtubers would suggest something is coming soon. There are a few more reasons though while we suspect this is coming very soon. Maybe even in the new 4 weeks.
Timekeeper game release
Slytherin are about to release the Stargate game, Timekeepers. This very exciting mission lead game has been in development for a few years now but is nearly ready for release. In fact Slytherin press release office has already been in touch and offered to let SciTrek get access to the game a couple of weeks early and review it for them. Now we have heard rumors that the game was purposefully delayed following the sale of MGM to Amazon, this was in part so the story line could be altered to fit in with the vision Amazon has for the franchise but also to fit around the announcement of a new series or movie. Why? For sales, its that simple. Interest in the franchise and therefore the game will obviously be far higher following the announcement than before?
The game will be out in weeks… Will the announcement be first though
Stargate movie 1994 came out October 29th
At the time it was the biggest opening weekend in October ever and Roland Emmerichs 1994 Stargate movie starring Russell and Spader is still MGM’s 10th highest grossing movie of all time. It turns 29 years old on October the 29th but what does that have to do with anything? Well when PR and marketing people are looking at how to announce projects they do look for certain things and one thing they love? An anniversary!
Companies regularly save their announcement for special days, Star Trek loves to announce things on Federation Day and Star Wars has May the 4th. If they can they love to release something for fans on these special days, could Amazon decide to do it again and announce on the original movies birthday?
Big events like Comic Con
Before the strikes hit Amazon did have a plan. Several sources have confirmed our exclusive that Amazon were planning to announce the new Stargate Movie at San Diego Comic Con 2023. In march though they decided they couldn’t it, the Writers seemed ready to go on strike and they were pretty sure the Actors were going to follow so they decided announcing anything during the strikes would not be taken in a positive light by fans.
So now the strikes are coming to an end are there any more big Comic Cons they could announce at?
YES!
A few weeks ago we first discussed New York Comic con (12-15 October 2023) on a live and a few days ago Gateworld followed up with a brilliant article raising the same possibility. To make it even better Amazon has a 2 hour stage session set up where they are promising to show:
“Never before seen footage for fan favorite returning shows and highly anticipated new shows”.
Could one of those be Stargate? Now to be clear Gateworld are not saying they have any insider knowledge here and they are just pointing out the possibility but from the sources we do get to talk to at SciTrek we don’t think it is very likely we will get an announcement on stage in the big apple.
For a couple of reasons.
For one MGM is not mentioned in the press release. Now MGM is owned by Amazon but MGM but technically these companies merged and legally in many ways MGM is still a company. There is nothing to say Amazon would HAVE to say MGM as part of this press release if they did intend to announce Robocop or Stargate but it would be very bad form for them to do it. It would really be an insult to one of the oldest and best loved studios in Hollywood to not even mention them if you were planning to release news of two big MGM franchises returning.
No our sources are telling us this event planned by Amazon is just for Amazon projects. If Stargate is to be announced MGM is more likely to get its own time on stage separate to Amazon.
Talking to one source they stated that they wouldn’t put it passed Amazon to do this but they think at most, if they do decide to announce in New York a teasing video is more likely. A “Coming soon to Amazon” short video with hints of several projects that might just include a Stargate opening. Not a out and out official announcement, that would follow via MGM press release, but perhaps enough to get the internet talking.
Amazon need a Director and Script first anyway… right?
Well our sources have been telling us for a while that they had a script pretty much done before the WGA script. Even if this script is not quite final, its far enough along that it wouldn’t stop the announcement. But how about a Director? Well again they don’t have to have a Director to be signed up before they announce but they would prefer it. Announcing an intention to do something is great but they would want to announce writers, producers and a big name Director if possible. So why do we think this could be close?
Well again thanks to one source that has been really reliable for the entire life of SciTrek we have found out that an agent at one of the big Talent Agents in Hollywood dragged their entire team in to the office on Monday October 2nd, something they don’t do often, but more than that, they got someone from legal to join several discussion too throughout the day. Why is this interesting? Well the rumor (un-confirmed) is that the agent in question specialises in managing Directors and Producers and whatever was going on was at Amazons instruction… for MGM!
Is this for Stargate? My source suspects that is very possible considering only a week before an official source at MGM confirmed to SciTrek that they knew “who the Director would be” and when I asked if they had signed on they just repeated “we know who the Director will be”. Strongly suggesting they had their Director but they were not under contract yet. Maybe they are now though?
Now that is rumor and conjecture. I don’t deny it. We don’t know for certain what is happening but since a source emailed me late Sunday a few days ago excitedly telling me that it was close.. that i should contact other sources for more ASAP, there has been several leaks that together do start to build a picture.
SOMETHING is happening now the strikes are coming to an end and it is difficult not to look at October and think this could finally be our time. So Gaters get ready.

The gate is finally about to open. We hope.
